Over the past decade, Bollywood has remade multiple songs, adding one more to the very long list is Karan Johar’s Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani’s second song What Jhumka. Sung by Arijit Singh and Jonita Gandhi, the song is a modern rendition of Asha Bhosle’s hit song Jhumka Gira Re from the movie Mera. Set in a vibrant and colourful background, the song sees Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt shaking a leg in what seems like a market.
Well, very often than not many veteran musicians have often opened up about Bollywood remaking songs and ruining it for the current generation. As the song has garnered mixed reactions from the public, let’s revisit the time when Bhosle had once commented on her songs being given a modern touch and how it doesn’t bother her much. She had spoken to Indian Express in 2011 about the remakes of her songs Yeh Mera Dil Pyar Ka Deewana and Dum Maro Dum for the movies Don (2006) and Dum Maaro Dum (2011) respectively. She had expressed how no matter how many remixes of old songs are made the audience will always remember the originals. Nothing can beat the popularity of the original tracks. Quoted by Rediff, she had said, “No matter how many films are remade and songs are remixed, the original is the best and is always remembered. My songs like Yeh Mera Dil Pyar Ka Deewana and Dum Maro Dum have been remixed but audiences will always remember the original.” ALSO READ: Google Reacts To Ranveer Singh's Dialogue From Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani! In her interview she had gone on to claim that she has not listened to the remakes of her songs and she doesn’t have any intention to do so in the future.
Talking about the upcoming movie, it marks Karan Johar’s directorial comeback to the big screens after a long time. Apart from Alia Bhatt and Ranveer Singh, the movie also stars Jaya Bachchan, Dharmendra, Shabana Azmi and many more in pivotal roles. The movie is set to be released on July 28th 2023.
