In Mohit Suri’s Half GIrlfriend, Arjun Kapoor plays Madhav Jha, a boy who grows up in moffusil India and then moves to Delhi, only to fall in love with a bratty Delhi girl who breaks his heart.

Arjun, a starkid born into a prominent Bollywood family, is far removed from the character but Mohit maintains that it was the actor’s sad youth which made him perfect for the role.

Arjun had called the Aashiqui 2 director personally during the casting of Half Girlfriend and after an intense discussion, Mohit picked Arjun.

"I was not looking for a person who was familiar with the Bihari language but I was looking for an individual who could connect with the emotional angst of the character. Arjun Kapoor was raised alone by his mother, even though his father was around. I have great respect for her and have worked in the industry with her. She (Mona Kapoor) single-handedly raised him in this male dominated society and taught Arjun how to respect women. Arjun during his teenage was unfit and that was the reason he did not have a girlfriend and he was not good at studies too. But he worked hard. He lost the weight and got launched, not by his father’s banner but by giving independent auditions," revealed Mohit.

Madhav Jha too is raised by a single widow mother, he struggles with his studies and later faces heartbreak too.

Half Girlfriend is slated to release on May 19 and stars Arjun Kapoor opposite Shraddha Kapoor.
