A few weeks ago, actress Payal Ghosh had leveled #MeToo allegations against filmmaker Anurag Kashyap, and had tweeted that he forced himself on her. Anurag Kashyap denied these claims, calling them ‘baseless’ in a series of tweets. Payal later filed an FIR against Kashyap, after which he was summoned by the Mumbai Police. He was seen exiting Versova Police Station after almost 8 hours of interrogation. Now, a report in Mid-Day states that Kashyap’s lawyer has claimed that the filmmaker was abroad that month.
The Mid Day report stated that Payal mentioned the month and the year of the alleged incident, but hasn’t specified the exact date. A police officer informed Mid-Day that Anurag has purposely not revealed the days that he was abroad, as Payal could allegedly manipulate the day of the incident and could then claim that it happened on a day that Anurag was in Mumbai. Anurag has also not submitted documents to support his claim of being abroad.
"Anurag Kashyap has recorded his statement on October 1 but he hasn't furnished evidence to support his statement of being abroad. Kashyap has not revealed the date of the incident purposely. Since the survivor has not revealed the date of the incident, if Kashyap reveals his Sri Lanka stay dates, she could manipulate the day of incident and claim it happened on a day that he was in Mumbai," a police officer told Mid-Day.
The report also claims that the statements of two witnesses- one was the driver who drove Payal’s car to Anurag’s house, and the second being her manager. The report states that they only mentioned the month and year, but not the date of the alleged incident. ALSO READ:
