Writers and directors work really hard to etch out their characters in the most realistic and best way possible, but a few of them actually make the place and the location they shoot in become a character in itself. In Hindi cinema, we have such filmmakers like Shoojit Sircar, who has portrayed the beauty and essence of Kolkata in his films, multiple times through his vision.

Anurag Basu is also one such filmmaker. Be it Life In A… Metro or his last directorial Ludo, Mumbai was another character in both his films. Even in Barfi, he showed the beauty of Kolkata, while in Jagga Jasoos, he even went international.

Ask Anurag which is the next place on his list that he wants to explore and shoot in, and he shares, “There are many places on my list. Personally, I keep going to Kashmir and have spent a lot of vacations there as well. I keep going to Kashmir every two to three years but I never made a film there. So, Kashmir is on the top of my bucket list. I also haven’t explored the South India much. I have shot in Kerala but the rest is still unexplored. I indeed want to explore the whole of India.”

Kashmir is also referred to as ‘heaven on earth’, and there was a time that it used to be the favourite spot for filmmakers to shoot. In the past, films like Rockstar, Fitoor, Highway, Lakshya, Raazi, Jab Tak Hai Jaan, Haider, Bajrangi Bhaijaan and Laila Majnu have been shot in Kashmir and have tried to bring out the beauty of the place through the lens.
