It was for the 2012 film Barfi, that filmmaker Anurag Basu collaborated with Ranbir Kapoor for the first time. The film featured Ranbir as a deaf and mute guy who is full of life, along with Priyanka Chopra Jonas who played an autistic girl and Ileana D’Cruz. The film proved to be a gamechanger for all the three actors, with Ranbir receiving a Filmfare trophy for Best Actor while Ileana took home the black lady for Best Debut Female. Even Priyanka became a favourite that award season.

Soon after, the director started working on another film, singer Kishore Kumar’s biopic. He has been vocal about the love for this film that he had shared his desire to cast Ranbir again for the lead role. Ever since, there has been constant delays in the film, sometimes due to the issue of the rights to the late singer’s life. In an interview last year, Anurag had admitted that he has worked far too long to give up on the project and that he will make it with Ranbir only.

However, earlier this year, the late singer’s son Amit Kumar had said in an interview that anyone can say anything, but it’s going to be the family who would make the film and he would direct it himself too.

Ask Anurag if he has finally let go of the project now, since the family themselves have issued such a statement and he says, “I don’t know. I am still waiting. I was to start this film right after Barfi. I started doing interviews regarding that, researching on it and then writing it. So, I have given a lot of my time to this project. Now, I just want that the film is anyhow made soon. I have also only read about the interviews but I haven’t yet spoken to Amit da or anybody. If they want to direct it and make it, it’s their right as it’s his father’s story. But I just want this film to be made now soon as there have been a lot of delay already."
