Stardust Awards 2016, which concluded last night, was a grand affair with who’s who of the industry in attendance. However, as the award winners basked in the glory of their success, looks like a certain netizen didn’t quite like the fact that Anupam Kher was nominated for the Best Supporting Actor for his convincing portrayal of a concerned father in M.S Dhoni – The Untold Story.
Ouch.
Time and again, Anupam Kher has been part of controversies owing to his proximity to the BJP, led by PM Narendra Modi (His wife Kirron Kher too contested and won elections from Chandigarh in 2014). You may recall that Anupam came under the line of fire last year with his views on intolerance.
The actor flagged of a ‘March for India’ to assert that the world needed to know that India remained united and tolerant despite what was being projected. “This march is a symbolic gesture. We want to send a signal that there are millions of Indians who don’t think that India is intolerant. Every nation faces ups and down but branding the nation as intolerant because of it, is wrong,” he said. The march came in the wake of several filmmakers, writers and historians raising their voices against the rising intolerance and threatening the government with ‘Award Wapsi’ to vent their ire. Netizens and youth criticised Anupam for his sheer ignorance.
