Legendary actor Dilip Kumar left for his heavenly abode on July 7 at the age of 98 after a prolonged illness. His tragic demise left the entire film industry in deep shock and grief. Amongst Bollywood stars who visited Dilip’s house to pay his last respects and gave his condolences to Saira Banu was Anupam Kher. He had worked with the late actor in films such as Karma, Saudagar and Izzatdaar. In a recent interview, Anupam reminisced about his memories of late actor Dilip Kumar. He recalled an incident from several years ago when he gatecrashed a party and ended up meeting Dilip Sahab for the first time.
Speaking to Times Now, Anupam revealed that his journalist friend Ali Peter John took him to a star-studded party from the back gate. Although the veteran actor had been in Bombay for the last two years, he got stunned after seeing so many celebs in one room.
“And, suddenly, I saw Dilip Kumar coming so I went up to him and I said 'Namaste sir,' so he thought that I am some old friend and he felt that he must have forgotten my face so he was being extra polite to me. “Toh unhone kaha, mera haath pakad ke, aise apne bagal mein leke, ‘Bete, kahaan rehte ho? Bohot dino baad dikhayi diye’ (He took my hand and placed it under his arm. He asked where I lived and said that he had not seen me around for quite some time). Now my hand is in Dilip saab’s bagal and he is talking to everybody, and I am walking behind him like a clown,” the Special 26 actor added.
Anupam also mentioned that Dilip was ‘polite’ because he could not have imagined that there would be any gatecrashers at the party.
“I wanted the whole world to see me then because Dilip saab kept my hand under his arm). I must not have washed my hand for a long time,” he concluded.
Earlier, Anupam Kher had penned a long heartfelt note for Dilip Kumar on his social media. In an Instagram post, the actor stated that there is and there will always be a part of Dilip Kumar Saab in every Indian actor for generations to come. He will continue to live for centuries by the sheer magic of his performances.
The Hum Aapke Hain Koun actress also thanked the late actor for teaching him so much about life, living, and acting.
