In order to help citizens of India to overcome the economical setback faced due to the outbreak of Coronavirus, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced Atmanirbhar Bharat Abhiyan yesterday. He emphasised on India being self-reliant and asked everyone to be 'Atmanirbhar'. Ever since his speech, the word 'atmanirbhar' is trending on social media with some even using it to churn out memes. However, filmmaker Anubhav Sinha has raised a few serious questions on Modi's Atmanirbharta plan.
Penning a long note on social media, he has asked whether it is the citizens or the Government who has to become 'self-reliant.' He has stated that if it citizens who have to become atmanirbhar then it is fine, however, if it is Government, then is it not self-reliant already, he asks. He further asked whether the Government is going to contain economic liberalisation or are there new changes in international trade policies that are to be implemented in the near future. In the end, he asks what is it that citizens of India are supposed to do, to save the economy or their lives?
In his next tweet, Anubhav Sinha joked about the self-reliant plan of Modi and said, "The first fatality of आत्मनिर्भरता is Alexa."
