Filmmaker Anubhav Sinha has always been vocal about the political and social situations in the country and has fearlessly aired his views on social media. He is also known to have made hard-hitting films related to important social issues. He directed the 2018 film Mulk starring Rishi Kapoor, Taapsee Pannu, as well as Ayushmann Khurrana starrer Article 15 which raised important issues related to caste. More recently, his film Thappad starring Taapsee Pannu dealt with Taapsee’s character seeking justice for a slap by her husband, and the film received massive critical acclaim.
So it wasn’t surprising as Anubhav Sinha got a request to make a film on the notorious gangster Vikas Dubey. The tweet addressed to Anubhav Sinha read, “Yaar @anubhavsinha . #VikasDubey par kuch banao. Is baar dark comedy.” The filmmaker replied that people won’t allow the film to be made. He also wrote that the topic is too dark to be a comedy. Anubhav Sinha’s tweet read, “Koi banaane nahin dega Sir..... Also too dark to be comic... To dark...”
