Amrish Puri's grandson Vardhan Puri is geared up with his Bollywood debut Yeh Saali Aashiqui (earlier titled Pagal). Ahead of the film’s big release, we spoke to the young actor who very candidly reminisced about his childhood days with his grandfather, the learning he received from him and lots more. Vardhan began by saying, “My grandfather always told me ‘What makes an actor is the preparation behind his craft’.”

Well, Vardhan isn’t new to showbiz as from a very young age, he has been doing theatre. So, the young lad says he's is quite confident in front of the camera.

However, he is not over-confident he quickly adds. Reason? His grandpa had told him that ‘the probability of becoming a successful actor is very low’.  In fact, Amrish Puri never wanted Vardhan to begin acting in films as a child artiste. The young actor was offered Subhash Ghai's Pardes as a child, but Amrish Puri put his foot down.

Vardhan also spoke about how during one of Amrish Puri's last films Aitraaz, there was a huge health scare, but yet Amrish Puri managed to shoot the pending portions.

We all knew how Amrish Puri had a certain aura about him, and his strong baritone helped him bag some meaty negative offers. Well, to it, Vardhan narrated something amusing, “Neighbours used to come home running when they used to hear him speak loudly, thinking ki kuch ho gaya hai ghar pe.”

We asked Vardhan how he landed his debut film Yeh Saali Aashiqui. "Actually, I was supposed to do a period film with Mahesh Bhatt and Jayantilal Gada called Sultana Daaku. I was going to play the male lead and they were looking for a girl opposite me. However, due to some reasons, the film never took off."

Vardhan also spoke about his preparation for the Yeh Saali Aashiqui. "I had to lose 10 kg in 18 months to look a certain age."

Well, it's not too far before India has a verdict on Vardhan based on his first film. But then, we must always remember that a firm opinion should not be formed about any newcomer with just one film of his/her.
