They’ve played father and daughter in Prakash Jha’s Aarakshan and in Shoojit Sircar’s Piku. Now Amitabh Bachchan and Deepika Padukone are likely to reunite for the third time, this time as mentor and pupil in the Hindi remake of Nancy Meyers’ 2015 hit, The Intern, in which De Niro, in a classic reversal of roles, had played a retired man who decides to serve as an intern in a company owned by Anne Hathaway and soon ends up giving her both career and personal advice.
It’s a dream role and one that Rishi Kapoor was all set play when he was signed by the producers Azure Entertainment and Warner Brothers. Fate had other plans. After the veteran actor’s untimely demise the project is now looking at being revived with Mr Bachchan.
While no official comment was to be had from the producers, a source close to Mr Bachchan says nothing has been finalized as yet. “They are in talks. He (Mr Bachchan) has a packed calendar ahead. Let’s see.”
The Intern released in 2015 and was about a 70 plus widower Ben Whittaker who doesn't dig his retirement. He laps at an opportunity to get back to the corporate world by applying for the post of a senior intern at a popular fashion portal, a brainchild of Jules Ostin.
