Ramesh Sippy’s Sholay, which featured Amitabh Bachchan, Hema Malini, Dharmendra and Jaya Bachchan in the lead roles, is synonymous of sorts with the Indian film industry. The film is a classic in every sense and we don’t really need to prove that. Well, in case you are wondering what makes us talk about this Bollywood gem today, it’s Amitabh Bachchan’s recent Instagram post that’s sure to talk you a trip down the memory lane and watch Sholay, like right now.
The unseen, black and white picture shared by Amitabh Bachchan is from Sholay’s star-studded premiere that took place on August 15, 1975, and was graced by his entire family. In his caption, Big B complimented his better-half Jaya and also revealed how they watched the film on 35 mm print because the 70 mm stereo sound print was stuck in Customs. Well, soon after he watched Sholay, the team got a call that the 70 mm print was released, hence making Sholay the first Indian film on 70 mm on Stereo.
Big B added that him, along with Vinod Khanna, sat on the floor of the balcony and watched the film till 3 am in the morning. He wrote, “At the Premiere of SHOLAY .. 15th August 1975, at the Minerva .. Ma, Babuji, Jaya and a bow tied moi .. how pretty Jaya looks .. This was the 35 mm print at the Premiere .. the 70mm Stereo sound print , first time in India was stuck in Customs.”
