So, I was in JW Marriott (Juhu) some months back and I felt that someone with a massive presence was walking behind me. That tak-tak of shoes is still resonating in my ears and I turned around to see my matinee idol- Amitabh Bachchan. I had the privilege of interviewing him in my stint as an Editor at SpotboyE.com and once before, way back, when I had started as a freelancer.
I have grown up on his films, and literally. I used to insist with my mother that she should get me the same shirt he has worn in such-and-such film (and there were many that she got me (creating a hole in her purse), despite our financial condition being not good. I used to insist at the barber shop that I wanted the same haircut.

I have stood in advance-booking queues stretching 1 km and received dandas from police for breaking the line. I have borrowed money from friends and bought tickets in Gaiety-Galaxy from black-marketers. I have stood for hours at newspaper vendors to get my evening tabloid copy when he was fighting for his life at Breach Candy post the Coolie accident.

On Tuesday, September 24, 2019, Sr Bachchan was selected for the Dada Saheb Phalke award- the most prestigious award an actor could receive in his career. But do you know that 37 years ago, on the same date, Amitabh returned home from the hospital after nearly a 60-day stay, following the Coolie mishap?
Post that, his health has not been all pink.
By his admittance on national television, his liver functions to the tune of only 25 per cent. "I keep quoting my personal example all the time and try and propagate the idea of getting yourself detected. I don't mind saying this publicly. I am a tuberculosis survivor, Hepatitis B survivor... Bad blood infusion went in and 75 per cent of my liver is gone but because I was able to detect it, even after a period of 20 years when 75 per cent of my liver is gone, I am still surviving on 25 per cent," the actor was once quoted by IANS. But look at the number of films he does and look at the quality of work he delivers, till today. Look at the number of TV and print commercials he does--- and doesn't he make you and I grin in almost every endorsement?

His KBC shoot (if all episodes not yet shot) may be hampered for few days. His films might be rescheduled a bit. But knowing the fighter he is, I am sure Mr Bachchan will come out soon from the hospital and wait for the orders 'Lights, Camera, Action'.
Get better and get back to your amazing self soon. Sending lots of hugs and love.
