Om Puri’s body was taken from his Versova home, where Shashi Kapoor, Shabana Azmi, Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Irrfan Khan among others had gathered to pay him their last respects, to the Oshiwara crematorium where the acting powerhouse ended his mortal journey (Shashi Kapoor, Shabana Azmi, Pankaj Kapur Pay Last Respects To Om Puri, Jan 6).
His family including second wife Nandita led the mourners, which included Amitabh Bachchan, Abhishek Bachchan, Farhan Akhtar and Randeep Hooda among other.
Shakti Kapoor, Ranvir Shorey, Anupam Kher and Satish Kaushik were among the first ones who arrived at the crematorium.
Soon enough, Amitabh and Abhishek Bachchan walked in together. Both had taken to Twitter earlier to express their grief at the passing of Om Puri.
Anil Kapoor was among the last ones to enter the crematorium and he was seen talking to the family members of the deceased actor.
Om Puri’s death had sent shockwaves through the industry. He had died this morning after a cardiac arrest. He was 66. He is survived by son Ishaan, who lives with his mother Nandita.
The Padma Shri awardee, studied at the Film and Television Institute of India and at the National School of Drama, where Naseeruddin Shah was his classmate. Om Puri made his film debut in 1976 with the Marathi film Ghashiram Kotwal.
Over the next four decades, Puri established himself as a formidable force with films like Ardh Satya, Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro, Aakrosh, Mirch Masala and many others. More recently, he was seen in a slew of commercial hits including Dabangg and Bajrangi Bhaijaan.
