"It's all happening here," said an exasperated CBFC (Central Board of Film Certification) official coming out of the meeting which was held after Udta Punjab went up for certification. And mind you, the meeting proved inconclusive.

The Shahid Kapoor-Alia Bhatt-Kareena Kapoor-Diljit Dosanjh starrer, which dwells on the drug menace in Punjab, could not be passed by the Examining Committee (EC) who saw it in Sunny Super Sound (Juhu) on Thursday. No prizes for guessing why. It has been clear from the trailer that the film has far too many dialogues which have expletives and scenes which exhbit substance consumption.

SpotboyE has it that while the 4 members and the Regional Officer (RO) who saw the film were unanimous in their thought that the film can be granted only an A certificate, they differed on the number of cuts that they wanted to implement.

A source says, "Three members felt that fewer cuts would be fine, but one of them put his foot down to say that he wanted a far higher number of cuts. All efforts made by the RO to ensure that the four end up on the same page proved futile."

Last heard, CBFC Chairman Pahlaj Nihalani has planned to send the film to the Revising Committee (RC). Adds the source, "The Chairman reserves the right to forward it to the RC if there is a difference of opinion which cannot be resolved."

So who will see the film at the RC? "It would be headed by either Nandini Sardesai or the Chairman himself," added the source.

Udta Punjab, slated to hit theatres on
June 17, is produced by  Shobha Kapoor and Ekta Kapoor under their banner Balaji Motion Pictures in association with Phantom Films. "This is not for kids. I don't think too much while writing I just write what is right for the situation. But at the time there is nervousness. That's a fight," the film's director Abhishek Chaubey had said in a recent press conference when asked about the possibility of the Censor Board raising objections to his latest venture. Chaubey's words have come true.
