When it comes to experimenting with movies and entertaining the audience to the fullest, Akshay Kumar is always a step ahead. After being in the Bollywood industry for almost four decades, Khiladi Kumar is all set to make his foray into the Marathi film industry. Yes, you read that right! He is all set to essay the role of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj in a Mahesh Manjrekar directorial.
The film Vedat Marathe Veer Daudale Saat will follow the journey of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj’s extraordinarily brave seven Maratha officers in 1674, who come together to fight the barbaric Bahlol Khan. The announcement of the film was made at a grand event on Wednesday in the presence of Maharashtra’s Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and Maharashtra Navnirman Sena Chief Raj Thackeray. Talking about the same, Akshay told PTI that it was the MNS Chief who urged him to take up the role. He shared that even though playing Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj is a huge task, he will give it his best. He said, "I am playing the role of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. I got the role because of Raj Thackeray, he told me, 'Akshay you should do this role'. And I was taken aback. It is a huge deal for me to play the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. It is a huge task and I would like to say I will give my best."
During the event, the movie's makers unveiled the 55-year-old’s first glimpse from the movie and shared that they will be working on his look more. Akshay also shared, "To play the role of such a legendary personality is a huge responsibility, I am so happy about this. It is dream come true kind of a role." Director Mahesh Manjrekar revealed that the Ram Setu actor was the perfect choice to play the role of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. He said, "It was my wish to work with Akshay. And for this role I couldn't see any other actor but him. We wanted a certain personality and look and Akshay had the apt image to play a Hindu raja."
Produced by Vaseem Qureshi, the movie also stars Jay Dudhane, Utkarsha Shinde, Vishal Nikam, Virat Madke, Hardik Joshi, Satya, Nawab Khan, and Praveen Tarde. The movie will be in Marathi, Hindi, Telugu, and Tamil. It is set to be released on Diwali next year.
