Akshay Kumar lost his mother, Aruna Bhatia, on September 8 - a day prior to his 54th birthday, due to age related issues. He had left his shoot in the UK mid-way to be with his mother when she was admitted to the ICU of a hospital in Mumbai. After performing her last rites and all related rituals, Akshay rushed back to Britain to finish his under production thriller, Cinderella, a remake of the Tamil crime thriller, Ratsasan (2018).
In his letter, PM Modi, notably, mentioned that he spoke to the actor on the day of his mother's passing. The prime minister went on to accredit Akshay's values instilled in him by his parents with the help of which he has carved out a niche for himself in Indian cinema.
Akshay Kumar, understandably, was left speechless at PM Modi's gesture. “We are actors. We are supposed to be well-equipped at expressing emotions. But what to do when the warmth in some words leaves you speechless!” he told Hindustan Times.
“That’s what makes this gesture truly heart-tugging," he said, adding PM Modi did not need to do this.
Akshay was very close to his mother. On his birthday, he posted an emotional note on Instagram and shared his belief with the world. He shared a beautiful photo of himself with his mother along with this note. He also thanked his fans for the wishes.
Akshay wrote, "Would have never liked it this way but am sure mom is singing Happy Birthday to me from right up there! Thanks to each one of you for your condolences and wishes alike. Life goes on."
