Airlift director's rejoinder to Capt. Juvale's lament

A few hours ago, SpotboyE brought you the story of Capt. Juvale's wounds. His heroic mission ('Unsung hero' of the rescue mission of Indians from war-torn Kuwait objects strongly to Airlift, Jan 25) which remained lost in the pages of history- not once recognised by the government- did not find a mention in the Akshay Kumar starrer Airlift too.

His heroic mission ('Unsung hero' of the rescue mission of Indians from war-torn Kuwait objects strongly to Airlift, Jan 25) which remained lost in the pages of history- not once recognised by the government- did not find a mention in the Akshay Kumar starrer Airlift too.

Capt. Juvale also said that the film's director Raja Menon hadn't bothered to hear him out when he wanted to give him some facts about the evacuation. According to Capt. Juvale, an airlift happened only at a much later stage when things had calmed down and not as portrayed in the movie.

The time was right to contact Menon.

Menon shot back, saying, "You can't please everybody. I am not denying that Capt. Juvale is a hero, he may have done a lot in the evacuation. But I am sure there were many more heroes besides him. Surely, I can't show each and everyone in a 130-minute film."

Added Menon, "I don't know which channel Capt. Juvale used to get in touch with me. I didn't get any message or calls from him."

The director further said, "And with due respect to him- how can he say than an airlift as portrayed in my film never happened, or happened at a much later stage when things had calmed down? 488 Air India planes had flown in and out of Kuwait to bring several Indians to safety. It's all documented with Air India; I think they'll be grossly upset with him if he is choosing to sit on the other side of the fence."

Over to you, Capt. Juvale.
