Only recently, Saif Ali Khan’s remarks on his upcoming film Adipurush, in context to Raavan had created a stir on social media. The actor had said how the film will make Raavan appear ‘humane’ and ‘justify’ his abduction of Sita, which didn't go well with a lot of people and he was at the receiving end of hatred. In response to the same, Saif withdrew his statement and issued an apology. A case, too, was filed against the actor and filmmaker Om Raut for allegedly hurting religious sentiments. Now, in an interview with Mid Day, the Adipurush's dialogue writer Manoj Muntashir has defended Saif by saying that he was misunderstood.
Manoj also revealed that there is nothing offensive in the film. "Saif was recently trolled for his remarks about [humanising] Lankesh, but there is nothing offensive in the film. Saif was misunderstood. Ravana is perceived as an all-black figure, but in our film, he will be seen in all his shades. He will be shown as a flamboyant king, who was also cruel and sadistic," said the writer and lyricist. He added, "Ravana believed that he was more powerful than Ram, and could never fathom why Sita couldn't fall in love with him."
Opening up on Saif's performance in the film, Manoj stated, "Saif is a thinking actor and asks questions to understand his role better. He gets into the skin of the character."
In his clarification, Saif had said, “I’ve been made aware that one of my statements during an interview, has caused controversy and hurt people’s sentiments. This was never my intention or meant that way. I would like to sincerely apologise to everybody and withdraw my statement. Lord Ram has always been the symbol of Righteousness & Heroism for me. Adipurush is about celebrating the victory of good over evil and the entire team is working together to present the epic without any distortions.”
