Pahlaj Nihalani’s Examining Committee has demanded 48
cuts from Kushan Nandy’s Nawazuddin Siddiqui starrer Babumoshai Bandookbaaz.
The film, whose trailer grabbed headlines thanks to its high quotient of sex
and violence, is having a tough time with the censors and the film’s director
Kushan Nandy is obviously miffed by it.
While the filmmaker has decided to approach the The Film
Certification Tribunal (FCAT), a storm is brewing in the offices of CBFC.

Turns out, Ashoke Pandit, a senior CBFC member who has
been vocal about his disapproval of censor chief Pahlaj Nihalani, is mobilising
a group against him.
Pandit will support the makers of Babumoshai Bandookbaaz
who along with the Indian Film & Television Directors' Association (IFTDA)
will hold a press conference denouncing the censors’ demand of 48 cuts. Pandit,
who too is a filmmaker, is a member of the organisation. This meeting will take
place tomorrow at Club Millenium, Juhu.

Clearly, the Censor Board is a house divided.
Time and again, Pandit has spoken out against
Nihalani including in an exclusive interview to SpotboyE.com where he had said: “Censor Board is not Pahlaj's property. There is a problem.
The entire industry will rise and approach the higher-ups.”
In 2016, the CBFC (Central Board of Film Certification)
had issued a circular to filmmakers asking them to stop using cuss words in
films.Pandit, had expressed disagreement with regards to this circular on Twitter.

And not too long ago, Chitrangda Singh had left
Babumoshai Bandookbaaz film in a huff after she was asked to do a rather graphic
sex scene. She had flown to Mumbai and spoken to SpotboyE.com about her agony.

Chitrangda had told us: “We finished the shot and Kushan
said that he didn't like it. He wanted me to lie on top of Nawaz. Now let me
tell you that I was wearing a petticoat for that scene.I turned around to tell
Kushan about my predicament. I told him: 'Ho toh gaya. Kyun kar raha hai aise?
Please try to understand that I am wearing a petticoat. But, he was in no mood
to listen and we ended up having a big, loud argument.”
Filmmaker Ashoke Pandit And Pahlaj Nihalani
When we asked Ashoke Pandit about his decision, he
quipped, “I am a filmmaker first. Pahlaj is misusing his power and the dignity
of the chair is being compromised. He has slaughtered good films like Udta
Punjab and Lipstick Under My Burkha. I hate such diktats.”
Pahlaj Nihalani remained unavailable for comment.
