After 'Arrest Randeep Hooda' Trends On Twitter, Actor Is Dropped As Brand Ambassador Of UN Treaty

Removal of Randeep Hooda as brand ambassador of UN Treaty after an old 'sexist' joke on former UP Chief Minister Mayawati, cracked by him surfaces online

Randeep Hooda who is an animal lover, was removed as the ambassador of the Convention for the Convention for the Conservation of Migratory Species of Wild Animals (CMS) after his comment on former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati. An old video that surfaced on the internet, where he spoke at an media event held by India Today in 2012, his comment on the former UP Chief Minister came across as “casteist and sexist” and hence the secretariat of CMS released a statement about removal of the actor from the brand ambassador of this treaty.

While CMS  Secretariat states he was unaware of this video and only after he came across it in the recent times, he found it “offensive” and it was said that they “did not reflect the values” He also mentioned even organization was not aware of this comment, when the actor was welcomed on board as CMS Ambassador in 2020. While CMS is also known as Bonn Convention, it is said to be a treaty of the United Nations and stands separate from UN Secretariat and the UN Environment Programme. 

Moreover, the Radhe actor was brand ambassador for CMS only, back then also nominated were Australian explorer and environmentalist Sacha Dench and British biologist Ian Redmond OBE and the actor was supposed to serve as a brand ambassador till 2023. 


The video clip featuring the Kick actor that surfaced on Twitter on Tuesday caused a stir on social media.  Reacting to this video clip was CPI-ML Politburo member Kavita Krishnan who also called it “casteist and sexist”. After this video #ArrestRandeepHooda also began to trend on microblogging site.
