Samajwadi Party leader Abu Azmi is no stranger to controversies and he is at it again. This time his target is Karan Johar, who is on cloud nine ever since he introduced twins Yash and Roohi to the world.
While Bollywood has been showering him with congratulatory messages ever since, Abu Azmi has found something negative to say on the matter (as well).
During a press conference Azmi mocked Karan’s decision to take the surrogacy route to father twins and said, “Bhagwaan ne jitni ladke banae, utni ladkiyaan bhi banai, jode banae, parr uss bechare ke liye joda hi nahin banaya.”
“Shaadi karni chahiye aur agar nahin kar sakte, bimaari hai to bata do. Dekho main mazaak nahin bana raha hoon, itne bade ho gaye, shaadi nahin kar sakte ho, koi problem hai to adopt kar lo, ye surrogacy ka kya natak karke rakhe ho?” he added.
Disgusted yet? There’s more.
He further said, “Aap (referring to Karan) iss tarah se jo kar rahe hain, aisa lag raha hai ki gareebon ka mazak ho raha hai.”
Mr Azmi, how is someone’s personal decision your domain? Moreover, why do you have a problem with someone choosing surrogacy to have children? These moves are called PERSONAL choices for a reason.
Also, we live in the 21st century, it’s high time you get over the ‘Bhagwaan ne Jodi banai hai’ concept.
Everyone has the freedom to make choices.
FYI, we celebrate International Women’s Day in 2 days, God knows what the man will come up with next.
This is not the first time that Azmi’s distasteful comments have made headlines. In January this year, the politician was slammed for shaming women. On New Year's Eve in Bengaluru, an alleged mass molestation took place, where women were subjected to sexual assault and harassment. Many politicians blamed it on females wearing "short dresses". One of them was MLA Abu Azmi, father-in-law of actress Ayesha Takia, stated, "It was bound to happen. Women were wearing short dress."
He added, "If a girl celebrates after dark she should go with her husband, father and not with strangers."
Soon after his comments, Bollywood stars including Farhan Akhtar, Varun Dhawan, Richa Chadha and singer Shweta Pandit lashed out against Azmi.
In 2014, Azmi was at the receiving end, yet again over his remarks on rape. “Rape is punishable by hanging in Islam. But here, nothing happens to women, only to men. Even the woman is guilty,” Azmi had said.
Yes, we are squirming in our seats as well. What a shame!
