The much-awaited sequel of Aankhen (2002) is finally on its way. The project -- Aankhen 2 -- was announced at a grand event in Mumbai a  short while ago.

The film, directed by Anees Bazmee and produced by Gaurang Doshi, stars Amitabh Bachchan, Anil Kapoor, Regina Cassandra, Arjun Rampal, Arshad Warsi and Ileana D’Cruz. Its music is being composed by Meet Brothers. The film, which is set to release during Diwali 2017, also features a mystery character. However, the makers aren’t ready to reveal that suspense yet.

While both Big B and Arjun were part of the original, the other main actors in that film --- Akshay Kumar, Paresh Rawal and Sushmita Sen -- are not starring in the sequel.

When asked about Akshay not being a part of Aankhen 2, Amitabh said Akki is busy with Neeraj Pandey’s Crack and hence, doesn’t have enough dates to allot to this movie. Bachchan senior also said that the movie will have a different story. The original film revolved around a disgruntled employee (Big B) training 3 visually challenged men (Akshay, Arjun and Paresh) to rob the bank where he was formerly employed.

Interestingly, while Arshad is part of Aankhen 2, Akshay has replaced him in Jolly LLB2.  “It’s mere coincidence that we ended up replacing each other in two movies, nothing was planned,” he said.

The event, which started a good 3 hours late, also saw the launch of  the film’s promo.
