Aamir Khan's Dangal has been hailed as a progressive film which has also set the cash registers ringing. The film amassed Rs 106.95 crores over its opening weekend and with the next big release happening only on January 13(OK Jaanu) the film looks set to become one of the biggest hits of the year.
The film is a biopic of the Phogat sisters, Geeta and Babita, and their coach father Mahavir Singh Phogat and Aamir Khan promoted the film as an ode to women.
And it looks like the theatres of Mumbai too are singing the same tune.
Many of the theatres in Mumbai have decided to organise special screenings, JUST FOR LADIES. The movie definitely offers a rare portrayal of women, moving away from stereotypes and women empowerment has been a favourite cause of Aamir, from his Satyamev Jayate days.
Dangal is one of the few films which won over both critics and the audience.
Dangal which features debutants Fatima Sana Shaikh and Sanya Malhotra as the Phogat sisters registered a whopping Rs 29.78 crore on Friday, it pocketed Rs. 34. 82 crore on Saturday (Day 2) and Rs. 42.35 crore on Sunday (Day 3).
