The Nitesh Tiwari film, which went on floors late last month in Ludhiana, sees the actor emulating wrestler Mahavir Phogat.
Over the last couple of months, Aamir has been working out and piling on kilos to look like a heavyweight wrestler, and he has visibly succeeded in it. (Mamma Mia! How FAT Is Aamir In Dangal!, September 12.)
But the perfectionist that he is, the actor doesn't want to take it easy. To stay close to his character, he has got a wrestling ring created inside the hotel he is currently staying in Ludhiana, Punjab.
"Lots of local wrestlers had heard that Aamir Khan will be in and around Ludhiana for an extended period. They have been dropping by in big numbers at the hotel and a lot of them actually practice do-do-haath with Aamir. That has helped him stay close to the character and also understand the game at an extremely basic level. These wrestlers are professionals, but they don't represent a team as such; they participate in jungi muqablas. Aamir has trained for months with national-level wrestlers. So, practising kushti with them is a different experience for him," says a patron from the hotel who has seen it all happen.

Mahavir Phogat, the subject of the film, has been keeping a close watch on Aamir and his kushti lessons. (Aamir Khan Shoots Dangal In Presence Of Mahavir Phogat, September 24.)
He even gave the mahurat clap for the film when it rolled in September.
