The 67th National Film Awards are currently being announced in New Delhi. It is one of the most prestigious awards recognizing and honoring the best of films and artists for the year 2019. While it was supposed to take place last year in May, it had to be postponed owing to the Coronavirus pandemic. Now, as per the latest update, Manoj Bajpaypee and Dhanush have been honored with the best actor award for 'Bhonsle' and Tamil movie 'Asuran', respectively. Asuran also won the best Tamil film at the National Film Awards.
Helmed by Devashish Makhija, Bhonsle stars Manoj Bajpayee in the lead role. Manoj Bajpayee has also co-produced the film. The first look of Bhonsle had been unveiled at the 2018 Cannes Film Festival. Meanwhile, Asuran stars Dhanush and Manju Warrier, and it has been directed by Vetrimaaran. Asuran was among the films screened at the 2021 Golden Globes Awards for the Best Foreign Film category.
Coming back to the 67th National Film Awards, the film Chhichhore directed by Nitish Kumar Tiwari bagged the award for the best Hindi film, while Jersey was awarded the best Telugu film. Meanwhile, Kangana Ranaut won the best actress award for her roles in the film Manikarnika: Queen of Jhansi, and Panga.
