One of the most celebrated films of Bollywood, Trishul clocked 42 years of its theatrical release today. Starring a stellar cast of Amitabh Bachchan, Sanjeev Kumar and Shashi Kapoor, it had hit the screens on May 5, 1978. But guess what this film wouldn't have made it to the screens ever, revealed ace screenplay writer Salim Khan. Veteran screenplay writer was the one who had written the film along with Javed Akhtar and had suggested to the producer to never release it.
Here is the reason why. In a video clip surfaced on the Instagram platform, it has Salim Khan revealing as the film wasn’t good enough, he had suggested the producer Gulshan Rai to keep it in cans and never release it. The veteran screenplay writer also reveals of arriving at the conclusion by watching the first trailer of the film. While heading back from the trailer preview, all four – Yash Chopra (Director), Gulshan Rai, Javed Akhtar and Salim Khan were disappointed.
Salim Khan said, “After the first trial of the film, we were all left disappointed. Yash Chopra, Gulshan Rai, Javed Akhtar and I were inside the car and none of us spoke for a long time until Gulshanji asked me how can I save the film. To which, I replied there's only one solution and that is not to release it at all.”
