Akshay Kumar, Kareena Kapoor Khan and Priyanka Chopra Jonas starrer Aitraaz changed the face of the cinema and turned out to be a game-changer for Priyanka Chopra as well. One year after being an actor, Priyanka Chopra picked the boldest role, Sonia Roy in Abbas-Mustan thriller. Priyanka's onscreen character Sonia who was the wicked, commanding sexual power and complex undoubtedly went down the history. This iconic character had set a benchmark for grey female leads in the Indian cinema. Well, as we speak about this film, today Aitraaz completed 16 years of its release and to mark this special day, Priyanka talked about her character and how the director duo trusted the relative newcomer like her for this role.

She shared an IGTV of the film on her Instagram and nostalgia will hit you hard. She wrote a long note which read, "#16YearsofAitraaz 2004, one year into being an actor, I played Sonia Roy in the Abbas-Mustan thriller Aitraaz.  It was by far the boldest part I had taken on, which was a big risk at the time since I was very new in the film business. I must admit I was scared as hell but the artist inside me was crying for a chance to do something interesting and Sonia was exactly that... wicked, predatory, complicated and self-serving for the most part, but also surprisingly vulnerable and emotional."

Expressing her gratitude to the director duo, she further stated, "I will forever be grateful to the dynamic director duo of Abbas-Mustan, not only for trusting such a relative newcomer like me for this role but for also understanding my inhibitions and pushing me to deliver a performance to be proud of. Today, 16 years later, as I look back, Aitraaz was a game-changer for me. It taught me to play my characters with conviction and not judgement. #20in2020"

For her portrayal of a seductress in the romantic thriller Aitraaz, Priyanka Chopra won the Filmfare Award for Best Performance in a Negative Role as well as Global Indian Film Awards and Screen Awards. ALSO READ: Priyanka Chopra Shares A 2008 BTS Video As Fashion Clocks 12 Years; Says ‘One Of My First Truly Immersive Acting Jobs’
