Having slowly re-started her life, Rhea Chakraborty has been in constant headlines after the death of her late ex-boyfriend Sushant Singh Rajput. For the unversed, he was found hanging in his Bandra residence on June 14, 2020. Over the years, she had been subjected to a lot of horrible things including media trials, being accused of killing SSR by providing him drugs, and being imprisoned, among other things. She has slowly been opening up about her life experiences and how it felt to be turned into a ‘public enemy overnight.’

During a recent conversation with the Humans of Bombay, Rhea recalled her jail time experience and how she was constantly worried about something happening to her during the entire controversy and investigation. Quoted by the Free Press Journal, she said, “Don't bend, don't cry, don't break. You have to take a bullet, you have to take it in the a**. I remember looking at myself in the mirror and saying, you're scared, right? It almost felt like the mirror said yes. The 32-year-old actress revealed how it took a lot of resilience and a strong might for her to come out of that zone. She expressed that even after 4 years, what kept her going strong was her truth which was with her the entire time. She shared how she knew she would never be the “same” person after she walked out of her prison. She added, “Jail is actually a very different world because there's no society in jail. It’s all about survival, you know? Every single day was about surviving. The Sonali Cable actress went on to add how, in jail, everyone is just a number in jail, and it is the test of their survival. Chakraborty felt that her family was finished and not everyone around her was her friend. “I have not forgiven everybody. Some people are on my head now.”


For the unversed, after Sushant Singh Rajput was found hanging in his apartment, in June 2020, Rhea came under the scanner. She was criticised, ridiculed, and blamed for SSR’s death. She along with six others, including her brother, were accused of abetting his suicide. SSR’s case is being probed by CBI but no closure report has been filed yet.

On the work front, Rhea Chakraborty made a comeback to the small screens with MTV Roadies. She went on to launch her own podcast Chapter 2 on July 20, 2024.
