Veteran actor and comedian Mushtaq Merchant passed away today. The actor was 67 years old. The 'Seeta Aur Geeta' actor breathed his last at the Holy Family Hospital in Mumbai. He was suffering from diabetes for a long time, ETimes reported. The news of his passing has left his fans heartbroken.
Over the years, he had appeared in several Bollywood films and made a mark for himself in the entertainment industry. His appeared in films like Seeta Aur Geeta, Saagar, Haath Ki Safai, Fiffty Fiffty, Pyaar Ka Saaya, Saagar to name a few.
He was also a part of Dharmendra, Amitabh Bachchan, Hema Malini and Amitabh Bachchan starrer Sholay, but reportedly his role from the iconic movie was chopped off from the final edit because of the length of the film. He reportedly essayed two roles in the film, one that of the train driver and a second one wherein Jai and Veer steal his motorcycle just before the song 'Yeh Dosti Hum Nahi Todenge'. He was fond of acting from an early age. He did a double role in a drama called Hajamat in his school and later turned to acting. He was also awared Best Actor Award at All India Intercolleges in Mumbai, as reported by asianetnews.
The veteran actor and comedian had bid goodbye to acting around 16 years ago. He became a Sufi and kept himself busy only in religious activities. In his acting career, he had also dabbled as a stage actor.
