Former actress and author Twinkle Khanna is known to be vocal when it comes to the happenings in the country. As the nation is fighting for justice for the 31-year-old trainee doctor, who was brutally raped and murdered in Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, people have been speaking out and questioning the officials about delays in taking measures for the safety of women in the country. On the occasion of India’s 78th Independence Day, Twinkle took to her official social media handle to express her anger and sadness over the same.
In her note, quoted by the Indian Express, the 50-year-old actress wrote, “Fifty years on this planet, in this country, and I am teaching my daughter the same things I was taught as a child. Don’t go alone–to the park, to school, to the beach. Don’t go alone with any man, even if it’s your uncle, cousin, or friend. Don’t go alone in the morning, the evening, and especially not at night. Don’t go alone because it’s not a matter of if, but when. Don’t go alone because you may never come back.”

Taking to the comment section of the post, one wrote, “Why blame the country ? Its everywhere ! It’s the mindset.” Another wrote, “And the irony that she wasnt even roaming alone .. she was at her workplace which is considered to be the safest.” Other one wrote, “Maybe it's best for all women to leave the country till men understand their boundaries and the system starts taking crimes seriously.” One commented, “Maybe we are only teaching our daughters, not our sons! High time we start teaching our sons basic values and respect!”
For the unversed, Twinkle Khanna quit acting to focus on her family after she tied the knot with Akshay Kumar in 2001. They have two kids - a son Aarav and a daughter Nitara. She ventured into writing books and has written Mrs Funnybones (2015), The Legend Of Lakshmi Prasad (2017), and Pyjamas Are Forgiving (2018). She released her fourth book, Welcome To Paradise in 2023.
