The film directed by Dibakar Banerjee mixed elements of noir with all the trappings of a period drama. Though the film got a lukewarm response from the critics and the audience, it was lauded as a brave experiment.

Bobby Jasoos saw Vidya Balan play a Hyderabadi detective who is a master of disguises. The film was directed by Samar Shaikh and also featured Ali Fazal, Arjan Bajwa, Supriya Pathak, Rajendra Gupta and Tanvi Azmi in supporting roles. It tells the story of Bilqees "Bobby" Ahmed, a Hyderabadi woman who solves petty neighborhood cases before a rich NRI asks her to find two missing girls.
Manorama Six Feet Under (2007)
Manorama Six Feet Under was an Indian thriller directed and co-written by Navdeep Singh. The film starred Abhay Deol, Raima Sen and Gul Panag in the lead roles. The story revolves around an amateur detective Satyaveer who finds himself caught in the middle of a murder investigation, while collecting evidence of an extra-marital affair.

36 China Town, directed by Abbas-Mustan, starred Kareena Kapoor, Shahid Kapoor, Akshaye Khanna, Upen Patel, Johny Lever, Isha Koppikar and Paresh Rawal. The movie revolved around the murder of a wealthy casino owner, Sonia Chang. It was a remake of the English movie Once Upon a Crime.
