The makers of Nawazuddin Siddhiqui and Amrita Rao starrer Thackeray, have dropped the trailer of the film and it will keep you hooked until the end. The film is based on the life of Bal Thackeray, founder of political party, Shiv Sena. The 2-minute 54-second trailer chronicles Thackeray’s journey from setting up Shiv Sena to eventually ruling the city.

Meanwhile, the Central Board of Film Certification had raised objection to three scenes and two dialogues of Nawazuddin Siddiqui's film. Thackeray, written by Shiv Sena politician Sanjay Raut, reacted to CBFC’s objections and told Times Now, “This is an emotional moment for everybody. As a producer and his closest friend, it feels a dream has come true today. Balasaheb Thackeray lived a larger-than-life and we will try to portray the same on the big screen. Tiger the toh Tiger hi rahege screen pe.”
While talking to IANS Nawaz had said, “Balasaheb Thackeray was a transparent personality who empowered the common man and it is a lifetime experience essaying him.” In an earlier statement to PTI, Nawazuddin had said, "One of the important aspects of Balasaheb's character was the ease and the speed of his public speeches. It is important for me to get this ease and speed." The actor learnt Marathi to ace his role in the film.
Sanjay Raut, who is also producing the film, revealed why he has cast Nawaz in the project and had said, "I knew Nawaz bhai was the right one. And the moment I set my eyes on him when he walked into our meeting room, he was locked in my head."
