The first trailer of Aligarh is out. This film, which stars Manoj Bajpayee and Rajkumar Rao, revolves around the life of Dr Shrinivas Ramchandra Siras, who taught Marathi at Aligarh Muslim University. The film deals with the taboo topic of homosexuality, and garnered a lot of praise at the Mumbai Film Festival, where it was initially released.
While Bajpayee will be playing Siras, Rao plays the character of a journalist who broke the story.
If we recall, Siras was sacked from his position of Reader and Chair of Modern Indian Languages, on charges of homosexuality. A sting operation was conducted by a TV channel which showed him in an embrace with a rickshaw puller, at his house inside the campus. He died under mysterious circumstances. The movie is expected to shed light on the whole incident.
