On January 10, 2020, Bollywood saw the first clash between Ajay Devgn, Saif Ali Khan and Kajol starrer Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior and Deepika Padukone and Vikrant Massey starrer Chhapaak. Both films are of different genre, though both are based on real-life stories. One talks about Tanhaji Malusare's bravery act and the surgical strike that shook the Mughal Empire while the other one talks about Malti's journey who survived an acid attack. After the release of the film, moviegoers were in all praises for both the film but the box-office collections of the two films see a huge difference.
Tanhaji is set to be a good success at the box office as it minted Rs. 26.08 crores on day 3, making the grand total to Rs. 61.75 crores. This is some pretty good footfalls as it has now put the film on a very solid footing compared to its first day collections. Going by the pace of the film, it seems Tanhaji will soon enter the Rs. 100 crores club by this week. While Chhapaak had a fair weekend at the box office as it collected Rs. 7.35 crores, making Rs.19.02 crores on day 3 at the domestic markets. With these numbers, the film is now showing a little stability but it still unable to score a double-digit number.
Meanwhile, SpotboyE Editor Vickey Lalwani rated Chhapaak with 3.5 stars and Tanhaji with 4 stars. For Chhapaak, he wrote, “The long and short of Chhapaak is that it has several moments which are praiseworthy, but it should have been more engaging. Meghna Gulzar's capable hands and Deepika's brilliant acting talent manage to do so, is another story.”
While for Tanhaji, he wrote, “Ajay Devgn, Kajol and Saif Ali Khan combined have pulled off a nice, engaging combat film.”
