What started off with numerous roadblocks and controversies, finally reached a conclusive end on December 7. Abhishek Kapoor’s Kedarnath, was riddled in several delays, but the makers managed to salvage the situation and bring it to the theatres this year itself, as promised.
There were several thoughts around Sara Ali Khan’s debut venture, in fact, at one point,
Rohit Shetty’s Simmba was touted to be her debut film. But, with Kedarnath keeping up with an early release, Sara’s debut was locked. The newbie may be having two big projects releasing in the same month, but the nervousness was evident when she sat for an interview with our
SpotboyE Editor, Vickey Lalwani.
Her jittery thoughts were put to rest when the movie opened to praises and a business of Rs 7.25 crore. The number only went upwards on Saturday and Sunday, with figures like Rs 9.75 crore and Rs 10.75 crore respectively. The opening weekend business of Kedarnath stands at Rs 27.75 crore nett, and it’s quite a decent number for a movie that is anyway not mounted on a lavish budget. Due to no release for the movie in Uttarakhand, it ended up losing around 30-40 lakhs nett in the Delhi/UP circuit. Speaking of the performances and the reviews, SpotboyE rated the film, 3 stars.
For those who didn’t catch our review yet, we share it right here.
Kedarnath is a very important movie for both the lead protagonists, and going by the weekend business, there is hope. There are no second thoughts that the collections will dip on Monday, but to what extent they dip, will determine the way ahead.
