Last week, was disastrous at the box-office with films
like Machine and Aa Gaya Hero performing miserably. This week, expectations
were riding high on Anushka Sharma’s Phillauri.
However, the film witnessed a weak start. Trade analyst
Taran Adarsh took to his Twitter account to post Day 1 collections. He wrote, “#Phillauri
is best in North, ordinary elsewhere. Fri ₹ 4.02 cr. India biz... Needs SOLID
numbers on Sat+Sun to register STRONG wknd total.”
As Taran Adarsh said, the film has performed well in the
North but overall it was a disappointing start for an Anushka Sharma film,
considering the diva has delivered two back to back blockbusters- Sultan and Ae
Dil Hai Mushkil.
The film has got average reviews from the critics as well
as the mass. While some people loved the film, there were others who said
the film was too slow paced for their liking, despite good performances from
Anushka, Diljit Dosanjh and Suraj Sharma. SpotboyE.com film critic Khalid Mohamed has also given 2.5 stars to the
film.
He summed up the film as, “With all its pros and cons
Phillauri is okay, a cut above the average. Meet the friendly ghost lady only
if you have time, patience and money to spare.”
Phillauri is Anushka’s second home production after NH-10
which was applauded by critics and audiences alike. This is Diljit’s second
Bollywood film after Udta Punjab. The film is directed by debutant Anshai Lal.
The opening of the film is disappointing but let’s wait
and see how it performs over the weekend.
