Parineeti Chopra and Aditya Roy Kapoor’s gastronomical con drama Daawat-e-Ishq might prove to be a costly treat for its producers, Yash Raj Films. Produced on an estimated budget of Rs 33 crore, the film has opened to a lukewarm response and an approximate Rs 12.5 crore-weekend. Whats noticeable is that the film improved from its first day collections of Rs 3.75 crore to Rs 4.25 crore on Saturday and Rs 4.5 crore on Sunday.
“Word of mouth has helped the film a lot,” points out trade analyst Amod Mehra, adding, This was the costlier film of the two but neither seems to have eaten into each others business. Thats a positive. There arent any big releases for the upcoming Friday, which may help both films break-even smoothly.
Disneys first Hindi fairy tale Khoobsurat had a poorer opening. Fridays collection was Rs 2.5 crore which showed immense improvement on Saturday and shot up to Rs 3.25 crore. With Sundays collections of Rs 3.75 crore approximately, the film has made Rs 9.5 crore approximately. The good news is that the films production budget was estimated as Rs 22 crore, which according to leading distributor Sanjay Ghai, looks recoverable.
Ghai says, Single screen cinemas are slowly warming up to both the films and though their opening figures are not boast-worthy, theyre not bad either because they have scope for improvement over the next few days. Even the multiplexes are responding well to them.
