Friday proved
to be lacklustre at the box-office as both releases – Simran and Lucknow
Central -- opened on a low note. While the Kangana Ranaut starrer made Rs 2.77
crore, the latter featuring Farhan Akhtar earned Rs 2.04 crore.
However, on Day
2, both ventures registered a growth at the ticket windows.

Furthermore,
author and SpotboyE.com’s film reviewer Khalid Mohamed gave Simran 3 stars.
Praising Kangana’s acting chops, Khalid said, “Despite weak direction and a
shallow script, Kangana Ranaut rocks big-time."
Simran revolves
around a 30-year-old Gujarati ‘ben’ settled in Georgia, who cares a hoot about
her still stigma-carrying status of a ‘divorcee’, apri Praful Patel is aaha,
brazenly bindaas. Everything she does – from clocking in at work as a hotel’s
housekeeper, acquiring a cool apartment from the ‘minority’ quota, and arguing
with her NRI daddyji from the old-fashioned school down to informing her suitor
(Sohum) that she likes to steal.
Farhan Akhtar In Lucknow Central
Meanwhile,
Khalid Mohamed gave two stars to Lucknow Central. He wrote: “Farhan Akhtar-led
prison escape drama, supplemented with music, is a sorry aama gaama paa. This
spin on musicians emerging from within prison walls is culled from facts, a
tribute to the Healing Hearts Band from the city of erstwhile nabobs who’d sup
on delectable kabobs. Sincere apologies, but the ensuing cuisine of muzak,
prison break plans and much ado-dah about violent rivarly between the cellmates
is enough to set off a tummy rumble. Grumble.”
Goes without
saying, Sunday is a crucial one for both films.
