On Thursday, Maharashtra CM Uddhav Thackeray announced the lockdown of malls, theaters, gyms or ban on any other public place in the wake of coronavirus. The decision was taken a day before Angrezi Medium, starring Irrfan Khan, Kareena Kapoor Khan and Radhika Madan, hit the theaters. Very next day, the makers of the film decided to re-release the film once the situation settles down. As theaters are shut majorly in Kerala, UT of Jammu and Kashmir and Kerala, the first day earned
Rs 4.03 crore at the box-office from the other states, followed by a dip in its Day 2 collections.
Now according to a report in Box Office India, Irrfan and Bebo led Angrezi Medium had a poor weekend with the total collection of Rs 9 crore. The film has badly hit by the novel coronavirus. The film collected
Rs 2.75 cr on Saturday and Rs 2.25 on Sunday making it a total collection of Rs 9 cr. Writing the first-day collection of Irrfan Khan starrer, Trade Analyst Taran Adarsh wrote, “#AngreziMedium Fri ₹ 4.03 cr. #India biz. Note: Biz has been severely affected due to closure of cinema halls in several states. #CoronaVirus #COVID19.”
Announcing the release of the film,
Homi Adajania had taken it to his Insta story and had written, “At midnight all theaters will be close across India till authorities give us further notice. We will re-release #AngreziMedium when it is safe to do so. Till then stay safe and be kind to each other. #johaisohai.”
