Hi
guys! I am back again and now I am watching Leena Yadav's Parched starring
Radhika Apte, Surveen Chawla, Leher Khan, Tannishtha Chatterjee and Adil
Hussain.
The story is about four women - newlywed wife, widow, sex worker
and a barren lady living in a village that doesn't want to progress and has
purposefully maintained a conservative thinking which is falsely taken as
culture and tradition.
A society where wife beaters are considered manly. The film
started on a serious note and flowed in the same style throughout with very
nicely placed candid moments. Women themselves are so mentally caged that find
it tough to break away years of slavery. But then they decide to swim against
the odds. Obviously they face problems, and looked at one point that they might
surrender to it but they leaving their past behind, they cross the barrier.
Though the film has serious content with serious scenes but
engages you. Few scenes will make you wince and that's the purpose. Radhika
Apte was awesome with bruises and amicable smile. In fact all actors, including
supporting cast did their job superbly well.
The film never dragged and you feel what the filmmaker wanted
you to feel. The use of suggestions and metaphors are good. The hard hitting
screenplay was presented rather in a understandable and non tedious way
For few it might be too dark and heavy too handle.... I give it
3 stars
