Taapsee Pannu’s recent release Thappad has just hit the theatres today, but even before its release, it stirred up a discussion on the Internet. We saw trends like #BoyCottThappad doing the rounds of social media, after Taapsee took part in a non-violent protest opposing the Citizenship Amendment Act.
The actress whose films have more often than not initiated debates and discussions got talking to us exclusively and she wasn’t alone this time. The charming Dia Mirza who has a pivotal role in the film also joined in the discussion.
I pointed out how after reviewing the film, in my look break, certain men opined that it was just a slap and the man has been apologetic so the woman should let it go, while some others felt that Taapsee could become a homebreaker with this subject. Quite shocked by their perception, but Taapsee and Dia were expecting this.
In fact, Taapsee says that the whole purpose of the film is just that. Had there not been such kind of men, the film wouldn’t be made. “The film is about the majority, not the exceptions.”
Thappad also drives a message that You don’t necessarily need a man to complete you. Dia Mirza cites that it’s a personal thing and it also depends on how financially, spiritually empowered a woman is in her life.
We also point out towards the trend of #BoycottThappad and with a smile on her face, Taapsee says that the audience is habituated towards boycotting every second thing, so it’s nothing uncommon.
Thappad, directed by Anubhav Sinha released on Feb 28, 2020.
