Ayushmann Khurrana and Parineeti Chopra- starrer Meri Pyaari Bindu hit theatres today and the audience is all praise for the lead pair’s crackling chemistry. In the project, Parineeti plays Bindu -- a singer -- while Ayushmann Khurrana plays the character of Abhimanyu Roy, a novelist.

Meri Pyaari Bindu also marks Parineeti’s return to the silver screen as the main lead after a hiatus of 3 years. Also, the film features the actress’s debut playback song, Maana Ke Hum Yaar Nahin, which already has the nation swooning.

SpotboyE.com sat down for a chat with Parineeti and Ayushmann a day before the release of the film.
Excerpts from a conversation that followed:

To begin with, Parineeti, you have sung Maana Ke Hum Yaar Nahin beautifully; I am in love with your voice. To hell with those who think it is auto-tuned! We know the story before the song, but what happened after?
It's any artiste's dream. Whatever we do, we put so much of emotion in it that the audience's reaction means a lot to me. I wanted Maana... to be a hit, but people have connected to the lyrics of the song more than enjoying it.

Parineeti, why did you feel the need to clarify the auto-tune controversy?
Aapne mujhe kabhi dekha justify karte hue? I am an entertainer - both in real life and films. I try to make everyone laugh and will continue to do that. I don't think anybody can choose what I can do with my life for me. As an artiste, we should be given that freedom and I respect other people's freedom also.

Did you fear anything when you were recording the song?
Parineeti: Darr aisa kuch nai tha, but I wanted to sing perfectly. I am a trained classical singer and even when I am in a corridor, I try and sing to the best of my abilities. In fact, my mood gets affected on days when my voice isn’t proper. So, in a way, that was the biggest responsibility and fear in my head.

Ayushmann, you are a singer. What was your reaction when you heard Maana?
I first heard Parineeti sing in a make-up room in 2012. She was singing Phir Le Aaya Dil from Barfi, and I told her that time that she sings well and since then I am pushing her to sing. I am glad she launched Maana after 5 years.

Did you at any point feel that Abhimanyu’s character should have been the singer in the film?
Ayushmann: It’s great when you get to perform different roles on screen. In fact, I have started writing these days, have my own columns and have written a book as well. There's a writer in me which is now coming out in Meri Pyaari Bindu for the first time. The identities as a singer and an actor should always be different.

Ayushmann mentioned Phir Le Aaya Dil which reminds me of Priyanka Chopra. Parineeti, how has she influenced your singing?
She is, of course, an inspiration. She's not a trained singer and yet sings so well. Music is in our blood and she has done it on an international level with some of the top music pop stars. As a sister, she got very emotional when she heard my song. I sent the track to her first. Her approval was important.

Parineeti, did you get feedback from legendary singers for your singing debut?
Sonu Nigam, Sunidhi Chauhan, Neha Kakkar, Vishal-Shekhar were impressed. They sent me messages and I am thankful that they liked it. Their opinion matters a lot.

Parineeti, you are returning to the big screen after a hiatus of 3 years. Did you, at any point, feel that people will judge or forget you?
My break effectively lasted only 10 months. I had a long term goal in my head and a lot of people supported me, because of which I was not scared to take a break.

Are you satisfied as an actor Ayushmann?
I am glad that in a span of 5 years I have been able to give 2 National Film Award winning movies - Vicky Donor (2012) and Dum Laga Ke Haisha (2015). I am fortunate that I am getting quality roles.

Parineeti, coming to the Sonakshi Sinha - Sona Mohaptra controversy. You made your point on social media, but Sona Mohapatra had to say something the Justin Bieber concert and about 'actors of singing'...
If Sona Mohapatra thinks  that the Justin Bieber stage was for 'actors' of singing, I am ready to sing Maana...

Ayushmann, do you also get bashed on social media? Trolls nowadays don’t even spare the likes of Amitabh Bachchan...
It depends on your personality and the way you behave on social media. But jab takk aapki praises ki maatra trolls se zyada ho, tab tak aap safe hain. Everybody has become an arm-chair thinker nowadays.

Do success and failure affect you?
Parineeti: Yes, I am human after all. Success makes me really happy and failure affects me deeply. Having said that, I have seen a couple of films not working in my career and I now handle it better.
