Neena Gupta is back with a handful of interesting projects and Maanvi Gagroo is slowly making her mark, with noticeable performances in her web shows and films. Together, the two women get chatty with SpotboyE, ahead of their film Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhan’s big screen release on Feb 21.
We begin the interview with Neena as we ask her about the phase when she had absolutely no films, and then suddenly, she started getting good roles, back-to-back. She cited that due to a dearth of good roles, she couldn’t get herself to work in films for a pretty long time.
Then, we move towards their forthcoming release Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhan and Maanvi speaking about her character says, "My character is called Goggle Tripathy because she is constantly wearing goggles through the film. She is the only family member who supports their relationship. While Goggle is visually quirky, she is also the voice of reason.”
The topic of homosexuality wasn’t discussed as much in the past and was shunned, to which Neena tells us how in her young days people would go “Haww, dekho inko!” Thankfully, times have changed for good and the LGBTQ community is gaining acceptance in our country slowly and steadily.
Maanvi speaks about how she is comfortable playing a homosexual character and even revealed about a film that she had done for the digital medium called 377 Abnormal which dealt with homosexuality.
We have heard of a saying that homosexuals are said to be more creative in certain areas to which Neena and Maanvi state that creativity is not gender specific.
Maanvi also addressed the failure of her debut film Ujda Chaman and spoke about social media trolls. And finally, Neena addressed the whole controversy that erupted soon after she tweeted about Saand Ki Aankh.
Their film Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhan is directed by Hitesh Kewalya, and stars Ayushmann Khurrana, Jeetu, Neena Gupta, Gajraj Rao, Maanvi Gagroo in pivotal parts.
