The year 2019 turned out to be extremly good for the beautiful and talented Kiara Advani- what with the success of Kabir Singh and even her recent release Good Newwz doing well at box-office.

However, her journey so far hasn't been all that easy. In an EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW with SpotboyE.com, Kiara speaks about her film choices, the failure of her debut film, trolls and lots more. She was looking lovely and we took it up right from her impressive fashion sense.

Here's the You have really made a name for yourself through your films and even the way you dress up, has taken the Internet by storm…
I am just being myself. I think I enjoy dressing up immensely. I wear what I wear to make myself happy. I was that kid who wore the shiniest clothes.

Aren’t you apprehensive sometimes of the fashion police?
I get quite a few showdowns, but it's okay; your style and my style cannot necessarily be the same. I do it for myself and not to impress anybody. If I want to just wear a jeans and a casual T-shirt, I’ll do that also.

Honestly, I don't want to take it seriously. Everybody has an opinion, but what's important is what you like for yourself today, with the boom of social media, there’s so much being written about everything. So for me, for a lack of a better word, I would not want to care about what everybody else is thinking."

You changed your name from Alia to Kiara. Why?
Obviously, because Alia Bhatt was already a star by then, and I wanted to avoid that confusion of 2 actors with the same name. I wanted my own identity. It was very spontaneous. I haven’t changed it on my Passport and Aadhar as yet, though. And you know what! When I am flying abroad and reach the airport, they look at me and ask 'But aren't you Kiara?'. So, I guess I might change it on my Aadhar and Passport soon- but Alia mera middle name toh rahega. KiaraAliaAdvani, that's how I go on Instagram (smiles).

You started with Fugly in 2014 that wasn’t a success. Were you depressed or what were the thoughts running through your mind that time?
I wouldn’t use the word ‘depressed’. But it did take me to my lowest. It made me feel a little unsure about whether I would get another opportunity. Because I’m not an insider to know how it works. And I didn’t even have an agency or a manager at that time. So, when the film didn’t too well, I went into a shell. There were a lot of low moments. Then, my audition in Dhoni biopic was liked by the director and I was cast in the film. I was appreciated in a way that motivated me. That hadn’t happened after my first film. But, after that period, there was again a lull. So, I realized that nothing is certain, it’s Friday to Friday. After working in the film Machine, designer Manish Malhotra noticed me in a song and suggested Karan Johar my name and that’s how I was cast in Lust Stories. That film made people see the actor in me.

Did the trolling for the masturbation scene in Lust Stories make you feel embarrassed or upset?
Not at all. I have never been offered anything like that. The way Karan made that scene look so aesthetic. I had full faith in him. When he narrated it to me, I knew that if anybody make it look aesthetic, it had to be Karan. And I’m a director’s actor, so I went ahead with it.

Did the cameo in Kalank help you?
It was Varun Dhawan who called me up one day and asked me if I would do a song in the film. I agreed; it was my love for Dharma and Karan. I have never calculated any of my decisions.

So the biggest moment for you came when Kabir Singh released?
Yes, I agree!

But Kabir Singh also brought along controversies?
As I had seen the original, I knew the kind of criticism that would come. But because this film was mounted on a larger scale with the Hindi audience, we got double the criticism. And you can’t deny the fact that there were certain aspects that were misogynistic. But then, Kabir is a flawed character. He has got anger issues. Even, Preeti in many ways is a flawed character. However, I feel the film was never about any heroic character, it was about two people in love.

But they never blamed Preeti for wholly obeying Kabir Singh, they only blamed the guy?
See, it’s the director’s vision. If another director would have made it, probably his vision would have been different. But I think Sandeep had his vision right from the beginning. It is the same story like the original and he didn’t want to change anything about it.

Speaking of Good Newwz- Diljit Dosanjh has told me, that after seeing the film, many of his friends came ahead and stated that they too opted for IVF. Has it happened in your circle too?
Yes, a lot of people like my mum’s friends and all. It’s such a natural thing. And it’s a good thing, we are bringing out these topics. We are living in a digital age. People want to have children and unfortunately if it’s not happening after several attempts, you do have procedures like IVF. A large part of our country is unaware of it. So, in a way, it also educates the audience.

Speaking of your upcoming films, the line-up is long- Indu Ki Jawaani, Laxmmi Bomb, Bhool Bhulaiyaa sequel.
You missed Guilty which is coming on an OTT platform.

Tell us what’s going on between Sidharth Malhotra and you?
(Smiles) We are doing a film called Shershaah. On the personal front, he’s a friend. People cook up all kinds of stories.

There's so much that has been said that he having moved on from Tara Sutaria to you…
Only Sidharth can answer this question.
