You have been away from the limelight for long...
After 2012, I didn't sign any film. But recently, just before finalising Jai Santoshi Maa's script, I was working on a film called Gandhi - The Hero. It's a beautiful film and I play a nun in it. I was just waiting for the right story and role.
After Lagaan (2001), many called you a one-time wonder...
It's very sweet of everyone to call me that (smiles). I have always been content with myself. I don't plan for tomorrow. Everyone has been asking me what's next. I took a break even after my first film. I have always wanted to do something apart from acting in films.

So, what kept you busy?
I have a dance troupe and we keep trying to create new stories. Choreography is a lot of hard work. Also, I look into all creative aspects of my dance shows. Apart from all this, I also have meditation classes.
What made you say 'Yes' to Jai Santoshi Maa?
When approached for the role, I agreed instantly because it has a wonderful message: how we need to be content. We work hard to achieve something, but happiness still eludes us. So, what is it that we lack? The show talks about inner peace and happiness.

Were you ever approached for reality shows?
Yes.
Bigg Boss...?
Yes, even Bigg Boss...and dance shows. But those were things I wouldn't be happy doing. I wanted to do something to which I would give my 100%.
