Veteran filmmaker Buddhadeb Dasgupta has been conferred with the Icon award for his contribution to Indian and world cinema in London. Talking to Times of India, he said that it is an honour to receive this prestigious award.
In May, he had been honoured with Rabindra Smriti Puraskar for his contribution to Bengali literature as a poet.

Buddhadeb Dasgupta is a poet and prominent Bengali filmmaker. He is mostly known for films like Bagh Bahadur, Tahader Katha, Charachar and Uttara. Five of his films have won the National Film Award for Best Feature Film, Bagh Bahadur, Charachar, Lal Darja, Mondo Meyer Upakhyan, and Kaalpurush. Dooratwa and Tahader Katha have won the National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Bengali.
He has won National Film Award for Best Direction twice for Uttara and Swapner Din. Over the years he has published several works of poetry including Govir Araley, Coffin Kimba Suitcase, Himjog, Chhaata Kahini, Roboter Gaan, Sreshtha Kabita, and Bhomboler Ascharya Kahini O Ananya Kabita.
