Lakhs of jobless migrant workers have been walking from their home to their village after Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced 21 days lockdown amid the outbreak of the coronavirus. At many state border especially Uttar Pradesh, people are stuck as they are not allowed to enter.
A video has gone viral on Monday showing migrant labourers and their families being forced to take a bath in the chemical solution upon their entry in Bareilly in Uttar Pradesh. Tollywood celebrities took to the micro-blogging site Twitter calling it inhuman act and asked is this way the government is handling the situation.
Actress Subhashree Ganguly tweeted, “Are disinfectants supposed to be sprayed on humans? Is this how one plans to fight coronavirus? By being inhuman? In these dire times empathy & humanity is all we need. So where is that?”
Swastika Mukherjee tweeted, “Nothing. Absolutely nothing to safeguard the poor. And I see many applauding UP Govt. For this ??”
There are 24 new cases of coronavirus have been reported in the last 24 hours. The number of coronavirus patients in India has risen to around one thousand and 29 deaths have been reported till now. There is complete lockdown till April 15 and all the public gathering places have been closed till further notification.
