Director Abhiroop Basu’s short film ‘Meal’ starring Adil Hussain will be premiered at the South Asian Film Festival Of America 2019. The film has been already doing rounds of many film festivals and has also won many awards.
The short film Meal has already won the Best Film award at the Ottawa Indian Film Festival where it competed alongside Anurag Kashyap’s Bebaak starring Nawazuddin Siddiqui.
Speaking about the style used in the film, Basu had said, “Since the film has no dialogue, the expressions of the actors and the camera angles used become much more important. I have played the entire story based on mise-en-scene.”
The 11-minute film featuring actors Hussain, Ratnabali Bhattacharjee and Arun Mukhopadhyay depicts how a dysfunctional family sits together for a customary morning meal amidst chaotic situations in their lives. Sound and production design are as crucial in the film.
