Gotro deals with the evils of the caste system, which is still prevalent in society. It also refers to the recent rise of communal sentiment and conflict caused by various divisive ideologies in the country.
The story is about a Hindu aged woman and her Muslim caretaker. They are from different religious background and culture but still they share an emotional bonding like a mother and son. Their bonding in the film has put up a question that is it really necessary to belong from same religion, same Gotro to be emotionally connected with someone?
